A recording of a thunderstorm using my zoom h4n from my front porch. The clip starts toward the tail end of the storm, and the thunder and rain slows down throughout. Starting in the middle and towards the end of the clip, there's even some birds and forest frogs in the background. A few cars drove past, and they can be heard as well.

Rode nt4 placed centered and perpendicular to an outside window, fed into an maudio delta1010lt. Slight clipping on the larger thunder claps, had the input slightly too high. This is a sample of about an hours worth of recordings i got on this storm. Heavy rain and the lightning got so bad later i had to shut off my computer. 3am couldnt sleep.

I left the recorder locked and unattended in the car whilst we went and did a bit of shopping. It was raining, breezy and the car was parked under a tree in a busy city centre car park next to a main road. You can hear cars passing at different speeds, the rain on the windscreen, doors opening and closing and muffled, distant voices. Zoom h1, internal mics, 50hz high pass at 6db/oct to reduce rumble.

This sounds as if it were staged by hollywood, but it actually did happen, i swear! birds chirp away to set the scene, but a beefy thunder roll intrudes. Soon after, raindrops begin to fall as if on cue. Theres a little handling noise click in the begining that is easy to crop out if you like. The recording is unedited. At 1:35 i move the mics closer to the deck so you can hear the splashing. At about at 3:10 i you’ll hear a different timbre as i move away from the rain and under an awning. About 3:45 the rain settles down and the birds start chirping again. Hopefully there are some useful segments in here. Recorded with a dead cat on a tascam dr-05 at 48khz 24 bit, then compressed with “lame --preset insane --scale 10” to make up for the low gain i used (i was afraid a thunderclap would engage the limiter). Five minutes of rain, artificially created. Using a blue yeti usb condenser mic on the cardioid pattern, i made a 30-minute recording of sounds from my sink (drips, splashes, different faucet pressures) and cut them up into 60 files, later edited down to 20. These were layered together and mixed with white, pink, and brownian noise. Slight noise removal done. Recorded some basic mic noise, and used a subtractive processor (reafir in reaper) to remove that sound from the final mix. Convolution reverb was added for a fairly realistic set-it-and-forget-it option. I've uploaded a dry version as well.

Recorded on a zoom h2n in 24 bit. Slight eq (2 db highs and low cut). Completely free to use. No attribution needed (still you can, if you want).
